CERATIZIT S.A., a company of the Plansee Group, sold all their shares in CERASPIN to the automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler effective December 1st, 2022. The former CERATIZIT subsidiary based in Livange, Luxembourg, has already been supplying ceramic components to the Schaeffler Group since 2004.

‘We are happy to have found in Schaeffler a financially sound and internationally operating buyer for CERASPIN, who will continue the production in Livange and take over the staff,’ says CERATIZIT Executive Board Member Frank Thomé about the completion of the transaction. For CERATIZIT, selling CERASPIN is a logical consequence of the strategic orientation of the Plansee Group, Thomé explains further: ‘The group-wide focus on the two strong metals tungsten and molybdenum means that silicon nitride no longer fits in with our core business.’
 

Premium products ‘Made in Luxembourg’

For more than 25 years CERASPIN has developed and produced premium ceramic products made from silicon nitride in Livange, Luxembourg. The majority of them are processed into rolling elements for various bearing applications. The roller bearings produced on this basis are used in growth markets like wind energy, railway, aerospace, medical systems, electronics as well as mechanical engineering. Roller bearings with ceramic components are characterised by low friction, reduced wear and particularly high precision. In addition, they are frequently used in applications which protect mechanical components against electrical current passage.

Both sides have agreed not to disclose the details of the transaction.
