Tailor-made solutions for cutting tools and wear resistance

Your application – our challenge!

Customized carbide solutions
We guarantee to always find the perfect solution for you, whether for wear protection, wood and stone working, or the manufacturing of cutting and precision tools. We also offer rods and preforms made from particularly high-performing carbide grades. The most important thing for us is that we understand your needs and the processes associated with them. With these in mind we get to work developing a carbide product tailor-made to your requirements.

Application engineering at its finest
Our customers benefit from decades of experience as well as unrivalled knowledge of how materials behave in practice. Our experts examine your application process in detail and adjust the development phase to match it as closely as possible. We like to call this "application engineering".

Your development partner
As your long-term development partner we can also find customized carbide solutions for the most demanding applications. Together with technological frontrunners from other industries, we keep tapping into new fields of application.

State-of-the-art systems engineering
During the development phase we put the latest prototypes to the test. In this vein, CERATIZIT has invested in the cutting tools department by opening the Tooling Academy, its very own machinery using the most up-to-date analytical technology, which provides a realistic environment for exploring practical tool solutions. This guarantees consistently improved production both in terms of performance and reliability.

The process technology of carbide production
Here at CERATIZIT our carbide parts are made using the latest high-performance production techniques: from direct pressing to indirect shaping, extrusion and metal injection moulding (MIM).

New day - new carbide solution

Investment in carbide innovation
CERATIZIT creates competitive advantages through the setting of new technological standards and development of innovative materials and coatings as well as unique carbide products. We invest continuously in fundamental research, process technology, product development and application technology.

Technological leader
As a technological frontrunner in the carbide industry we have over 1.000 patents worldwide and employ more than 200 employees in R&D. We also cooperate with universities and leading research institutes across Europe.

The "Plansee Seminar"
As a subsidiary of the Plansee Group, we contribute attend the "Plansee Seminar" every four years, which takes place in Reutte, Austria. Along with 500 other international participants, we use the largest global conference for the powder metallurgy of refractory metals and hard materials as a platform for scientific exchange. We're always on top of current research developments and implement up-to-date knowledge into the carbide solutions we design.

Our innovations are the key to your success

  • The multi-layer CVD coating COLORSTAR improves the service life and reliability of tools. Coloured coating means that any signs of wear are directly visible. When cutting edges wear out over time, their surface structure changes and so does the colour too.
  • In 2008 we patented our TiB2 coating, used in the field of titanium machining. This coating is produced through chemical vapor deposition, or CVD. At 1,000 degrees Celsius, components of a carrier gas react and form wear-resistant layers on the surface of the material.
  • In 1974 we patented the revolutionary multi-layer coating TIZIT GoldMaster.
  • We obtained our first patent for steel machining with the hard materials tungsten carbide and titanium carbide back in 1933 – when we were still known as Metallwerk Plansee.
